Kim Werkmeister is a nurse leader with over 25 years of experience, and a national expert in the reliable implementation of patient safety and process improvement strategies. She has worked as an Improvement Advisor and Clinical Educator for Cynosure Health and the Hospital Quality Institute, as well as the HRET HEN/HIIN and the HSAG HIIN for several patient safety initiatives including VTE, ADE, Readmissions, HAI prevention, Sepsis Mortality reduction, Failure to Rescue, Patient and Family Engagement, and Maternal/Child Safety. She has developed numerous patient safety and quality improvement toolkits, virtual educational series, quality and patient safety certification courses, and is a frequent speaker to hospitals and health systems as a subject matter expert. She is an adjunct faculty member for quality improvement efforts with the California Maternal Quality Care Collaborative (CMQCC). She also currently serves as a member of the Patient and Family Advisory Council at Mission Hospital in California. Ms. Werkmeister was formerly a Director of Quality and Patient Safety at two California hospitals, as well as the Leadership Development Chair on the Board of Directors for the California Association for Healthcare Quality. Maryanne Whitney, RN, CNS is an Improvement Advisor with Cynosure Health. She is the lead for the subject areas of “Sepsis,” “Delirium,” “VAE” and “Airway Safety.” Maryanne joined Cynosure Health Solutions with over 25 years of hospital operations and nursing leadership expertise. She has extensive experience in Critical Care, Patient Safety, Sepsis Mortality Reduction, Delirium and Rapid Response Team implementation. Jackie has over twenty-five years of hospital leadership experience, serving in clinical, staff development and executive roles. Jackie’s clinical background is in rehabilitation nursing, specializing in spinal cord injury nursing. She has served two organizations as a Chief Nursing Officer, in a large urban teaching hospital and a smaller community hospital. She is the clinical lead for Falls, Hospital Acquired Pressure Injury (HAPI) and Catheter Associated Infection (CAUTI) and provides leadership and improvement coaching to front line clinical leaders and executives. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Nursing at Saint Xavier University in Chicago, Illinois and her Master’s degree in Business Administration at Olivet Nazarene University in Bourbonnais, Illinois. Barbara DeBaun has over 35 years of experience in the field of infection prevention and quality improvement. She is currently an Improvement Advisor for Cynosure Health where she provides vision and leadership in the development, implementation and facilitation of infection prevention and quality improvement initiatives for healthcare organizations. Previously, she was an Improvement Advisor for BEACON, the Bay Area Patient Safety Collaborative, and was the Director of Patient Safety and Infection Control at California Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco. She is currently adjunct faculty at Dominican University of California. Barbara is a certified Infection Control Practitioner and holds a Bachelor’s degree in nursing from Pace University in New York and a Master of Science Degree in Nursing from San Francisco State University. Barbara is an active member of APIC, the Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology and served two years as an elected member of APIC Board of Directors. Prior to her board service, she served as APIC’s liaison to the Centers for Disease Control’s Hospital Infection Control Practices Advisory Committee (HICPAC). Barbara has lectured nationally and internationally on a variety of patient safety and infection control topics and has published over a dozen articles and several book chapters. Noah Ivers is a Physician Improvement Advisor with Cynosure Health. He is a practicing family physician and clinician scientist at Women’s College Hospital and the University of Toronto. Supported by a Canada Research Chair in Implementation of Evidence Based Practice, Noah runs a large program of applied research involving partnership with health system organizations. Associated with this program, he leads the Implementation Science team at the Women’s College Hospital Institute for Health Systems Solutions. This work combines expertise in both data science and behavioral science to understand determinants of behavior, and to implement and rigorously evaluate interventions that improve quality of care and patient outcomes. Dr. Ivers has expertise in behavior change for both health professionals and patients and has extensive experience in working with health system leaders to improve health system performance and patient outcomes. With over 150 peer reviewed publications in 10 years, Noah’s expertise has led him to receive the Canadian Institute for Health System and Policy Research Rising Start Aware and New Investigator Award.Email
Alex Stack is a health care strategy and innovation consultant with expertise in igniting teams to boldly innovate for bigger impact. Leveraging over 10 years of operational expertise in the primary care and acute care setting she partners with healthcare executives, stakeholder groups, and on-the-ground improvers to design, develop, and deploy transformational initiatives thru business process optimization, technical assistance design, and instruction/coaching on how to use quality improvement methods to accelerate innovation. Alex’s approach is rooted in the principles of quality improvement, adult learning, and high reliability organizing. She is a Certified Six Sigma Black Belt. Alex is the owner and principal consultant for Stack Consulting L.L.C. Prior to this work she has held leadership roles in quality improvement and strategic planning at several non-profits and healthcare systems in California and Texas including California Quality Collaborative, Cynosure Health, Dignity Health, and Houston Methodist Hospital System. She lives and plays in Las Vegas, Nevada, is an avid baker, hiker, and loves to travel.Email
Steve Tremain is a Physician Improvement Advisor with Cynosure Health. Board certified for 35 years in Family Medicine and now retired from active clinical practice, Dr. Tremain worked as a hospital-based clinician and teacher, and served as Chief Medical Officer for a large integrated public system for over 20 years. He was the executive sponsor for improvement teams that were awarded mentor status by the Institute for Healthcare Improvement in the areas of medication reconciliation, rapid response teams, and ventilator associated pneumonia. Currently Dr. Tremain works as a national and international Improvement Advisor and serves as the national clinical lead for the American Hospital Association/HRET HIIN efforts to reduce hospital-based harm. In addition, he teaches and consults regarding the culture of safety, process reliability, leadership and physician engagement throughout the United States and Canada. In 2007 he was awarded the Patient Safety Award by the National Association of Public Hospitals, and this year he was a semi-finalist for the ISMP Medication Safety “Cheers” Award.
